16 Jan Juggling Children & Planning a Wedding: My Journey as a Mum & Bride

Planning a wedding is one of the most exciting times in your life, but when you throw children, sleepless nights, and teething into the mix, it becomes a whole new adventure! Having been through it myself, here’s a little insight into how I managed to juggle wedding planning (not 1, but 2), being a mum to Jenson, and even hosting his christening before the big day.
One of the first hurdles is finding reliable suppliers who understand your vision. From florists to photographers, it can feel overwhelming, especially when you’re balancing naptime and snack breaks! My advice? Start early, ask for recommendations, and don’t be afraid to ask lots of questions—most suppliers are happy to help ease any worries.
Picking the Perfect Venue
Your venue sets the tone for your wedding day, and if you have children, it’s even more important to consider practicalities. We chose a venue with a quiet space nearby, perfect for Jenson to rest when needed. A good venue should cater to all your guests—big and small—and help the day run smoothly.
Planning a wedding means living by your lists:
• Guest List: Balancing family, friends, and space limitations.
• Save the Dates & Invitations: Getting them out on time and making sure everyone RSVPs (easier said than done!).
• Bridal Party Selection: Deciding who to include and finding ways to involve little ones, like Jenson, in the big day.
If you’re a parent, add extra lists for nap schedules, favourite snacks, and an emergency bag for the day. Trust me, preparation is key! Cover every possibility including teething salts, calpol, change of clothes, water bottle & extra nappies/ wipes!

Life with Children While Wedding Planning
While you’re choosing flowers and cake flavours, life with children doesn’t pause. Jenson was teething and hitting new milestones, which made for some long nights and busy days. It’s important to give yourself grace—you can’t do everything at once!
One of the biggest challenges was juggling other events. Before our wedding, we hosted Jenson’s christening, which meant planning two major events back-to-back. My advice? If you’re tackling multiple events, prioritise and delegate where you can. Take help of people are offering, don’t be too proud!

Top Tips for Juggling Parenthood & Wedding Planning
- Start Early: Give yourself plenty of time to plan.
- Delegate: Lean on your partner, family, and friends to help lighten the load.
- Include Your Children: Find ways to involve them in your day—it makes it even more special.
- Take Breaks: It’s easy to get caught up in the planning, but don’t forget to pause and enjoy time with your little ones.
- Book Event Childcare for the Day: Having professional childcare at your wedding ensures peace of mind for you and your guests.
Planning a wedding with children isn’t easy, but it’s absolutely worth it. Seeing Jenson happy and safe on our special day made everything come together perfectly. If you’re in the same boat, remember: you’ve got this! And if you need support with childcare for your big day or in the lead up to it, don’t hesitate to reach out—I’d love to help make your wedding as stress-free as possible.
